Today I went to see a Native American seminar. Although I only went to two sessions it was great to watch. First we walked in and there was a man dressed in all white with a head piece that was telling a story. He told a story, for about an hour, and it was amazing. The man put so much detail into the story that I could picture everything that was happening as he said it. It was a tale about a man who was suffering and the tribe didnt think he was powerful. So the chief went on this adventure and learned how to carve great totem poles and make blankets and became a powerful chief. All of this came about because the chief was taken to a great house that had animal people inside and he learned their secret so he was taught great things in order to keep quiet. Then the story teller added the children into the story and had them howling like wolves. It was adorable to say the least. The second session was dancing. Again the people involved the children and there was singing and dancing. It was so much fun to watch. I am really glad that I went to see it. Everyone should go out and watch something new.

That sounds really cool. I did not realize that was going on until I was walking to class and heard some of the stuff coming from the Student Center. Sounds like it would have been a motivational thing and not just for entertainment. Also brings out learning of different cultures. Wish I would have known about and had a chance to get there.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that that was even going on. I wish I would have known, it sounds really interesting. I always enjoy hearing about stories, especially of different cultures. I also like detailed stories and from your description of the story it sounds almost magical. I bet the dancing part would have been really amazing. I'm soo jealous!!
ReplyDeleteThat event sounds so fun! I saw that on my SRU communications but I was unable to attend. That sounds really cool that their was a man who dressed up and told a story. I think that kind of learning experience is the best. I hope to attend the next event like that.
ReplyDeleteI went to the Native American seminar too! The storyteller was an excellent speaker and I was invested in his stories the entire time he was speaking! I also participated in a friendship dance with the Native Americans and the elementary school children. It was really fun, especially since I was one of about six college students to get up and dance. I also got my mom a pair of turquoise earrings for christmas!
